Lux Aurumque

Recommended to me by a friend, this is an excellent piece of music by an American composer of whom I know nothing. Enjoy!

  1. This is a gorgeous piece and made a very atmospheric start to our carol service when sung by candlelight out of sight in the Lady Chapel. I recommend "Cloudburst", the CD of Eric Whitacre's choral music, if you want to hear more. "Sleep" is particularly lovely. My only gripe is that he uses some texts or translations by a friend of his, and they're not always the best.

  2. Thanks for your comment musicmiss, it is a lovely piece, isn't it.

I have heard sleep performed, but sadly not in the best of circumstances. It was the opening piece at a concert in Edinburgh earlier this year, and was accompanied by a small baby, whose mother was clearly deaf or indifferent to the noise he/she was making and declined to take him/her outside. I later discovered it was the child of one of the men in the choir. I trust he was suitably mortified!

Anyway, I heard enough of the piece to be impressed!
