Not before time, my recently-ex father-in-law has been honoured by becoming a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the New Year's Honour lists.
I think the pecking order is that it is a step above an OBE which itself is a step above an MBE. He's an extremely nice man, and his modesty belies his position and status in the world of medicine not only in the United Kingdom, but working for the UN in Kosovo, Iraq (twice) and Afghanistan.
